Razgatlıoğlu too hot to handle as temperatures soar!

Monday, 18 July 2022

Pata Yamaha with Brixx rider Toprak Razgatlıoğlu was on fire at Donington Park, UK as he scored his and Yamaha's first ever hatrick of wins at the fifth round of the 2022 FIM Motul World Superbike Championship in front of 50,000+ fans.

The reigning champion made a statement of intent with a commanding Race 1 victory on Saturday, beating Kawasaki Racing Team's Jonathan Rea by over six seconds. And he picked up exactly where he left off on Sunday morning when he scorched his way to a second Superpole Race win of the season, leading from lights-to-flag, setting a new race lap record (1' 26.767) and scoring his 50th podium for Yamaha in the process.

With the air temperature rising past 30 degrees Celsius, Toprak lined up on pole position for Race 2. He took the holeshot but 'JR' gave chase and relentlessly hassled the No.1 in the opening laps, before finally forcing the Yamaha rider into a mistake at the Fogarty Esses on Lap 3.

Rea ducked underneath RazgatlıoÄŸlu briefly on the exit of the Esses but 'Stoprak' lived up to his nickname and barged straight back past the Ulsterman just one corner later as they braked hard into the Melbourne Loop. Exactly the same scene played out just a few laps later; Toprak compromising his exit out of the Esses, the No.65 squaring off the corner to briefly lead before having to yield to his arch rival once again entering the Melbourne Loop.

Rea continued to shadow Toprak, at times riding inches away from the back wheel of the Yamaha, hoping to force his opponent into another mistake. But it never came and by half-race distance 'El Turco' put the hammer down and started stretching his lead. He took a classy third victory of the weekend ahead of Aruba.it Racing's Alvaro Bautista and Rea, who slipped back to third late in the race.

With Bautista not scoring in Race 1, the title hunt is now back on for the Turkish star who still sits third in the points standings but has now closed the gap to championship leader Bautista down to 43 points (from 79).
